After a successful jazz career obtaining several awards (including both Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations) recording and sharing stage with international stars of the genre (Scott Henderson, Frank Gambale, Joe Zawinul among others), Willy González decides to turn his life and play the music of his beloved latin america. Since then and from his instrument – the 6 string electric bass- Willy starts a true musical revolution in Latin american music becoming a true icon and a reference for both musicians and fans of the genre.
It’s been 18 years since that turning point, more than 10 discs, 1 interactive CD, 1 live DVD and numerous appearances with famous latin american artists like Mercedes Sosa, Raúl Carnota, Juan Falú, Lito Vitale, Chango Spasiuk, Liliana Herrero among many others. He also won 2 Carlos Gardel Awards (argentina’s most prestigious music price), National Endowment for the Arts Award and a Konex Prize for his contribution to music.
He toured all along Latin America and the United States. Willy has also made a big contribution as Latin American music educator Directing Latin American Music Career at the Berklee College of Music and also as teacher of Arrangement, Bass, Folklore and Tango at music conservatory Music Manuel de Falla.
